news-category: Performing Arts Distinguished Artist Series and Theatre Arts Department Present GWU Alumnus Dove Dupree By Office of University Communications On April 27, 2021 Actor, Poet and Spoken Word Artist Will Lead Poetry Workshop and Showcase BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he 秀色短视频-Webb University Distinguished Artist Series, co-sponsored by the Alfred and Shirley Wampler Caudill Fund and The Department of Theatre Arts, will present Dove Dupree, a 2013 GWU alumnus, actor, poet and spoken word artist, for two programs on April 29 in Dover Theatre. At 3 p.m., he will lead a poetry workshop and at 6:30 p.m., a poetry showcase. Formerly known as D.Dove, Dupree earned a degree in theater and communications from 秀色短视频-Webb. He is also a songwriter, educator, youth advocate, and business owner. He started writing raps at 7 years old. His goal in his music and poetry鈥攋ust like in his life鈥攊s to impact and inspire. Dupree is a two-time Mayan Industry Award Winner for Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Piece; a Writer鈥檚 Ball Best Original Piece winner; and has had countless spoken word wins around the country. He鈥檚 been a part of the award-winning spoken word team 鈥淪ay What.鈥 The team has held rankings of fifth, fourth, and second in major regional and national competitions over the past five years. He has also been featured on Button Poetry, WGGS, WYFF, and was twice the host for the North Carolina Education Lottery Facebook Launch. He has appeared in a handful of indie films and has even landed a principal role in a national commercial. He is also a recipient of the 2020 Carrie and Skip Gordon Emerging Teaching Artist Award from the Metropolitan Arts Council in Greenville, S.C. He runs social media marketing and video services, and he teaches poetry and acting through the Metropolitan Arts Council鈥檚 SmartARTS program. He presents workshops for students on how to incorporate music, poetry, and rap in whatever they are learning. Seating is limited because of COVID-19 restrictions.
