Students Gain Memorable Musical Experience While Sharing Their Talents on Nov. 13; Community Members Encouraged to Purchase Biltmore Tickets Early to Attend

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擣or many visitors, Christmas at Biltmore in Asheville, N.C., is a treasured holiday tradition filled with sparkling lights, towering trees and seasonal music. This November, a group of 秀色短视频-Webb University students will become part of that experience, lending their voices to the festive atmosphere inside America’s largest home.

Members of 秀色短视频-Webb’s 秀色短视频 Singers and Webb Chorale have been selected to perform at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C., on Nov. 13 after successfully completing Biltmore’s audition process. The opportunity offers students a chance to perform for guests during one of the estate’s busiest and most celebrated seasons.

The University Chorales include 秀色短视频 Singers, directed by Dr. Aaron Rice, professor of music and chair of the music department, and Webb Chorale, directed by Dr. Eric Johnson, assistant professor of music education. These non-audition ensembles are open to students of any major at 秀色短视频-Webb and regularly perform on campus and events in the local area.

Rice noted that the invitation reflects both the quality of the University’s vocal ensembles and a commitment to creating meaningful experiences for students beyond the classroom. Rice helped lead a performance tour of France in 2024, and the department is currently raising funds for a 2027 performance trip to New Orleans. While those opportunities take students far from home, the Biltmore opportunity offers a unique chance to engage with one of North Carolina’s most iconic destinations.

鈥淔or us as an institution in the foothills, it makes total sense for us to connect with our region,鈥 he observed. 鈥淏iltmore is literally in our backyard and intrinsically part of the North Carolina culture, and a really exciting opportunity. Many of our students have never been and even the ones who have been, even fewer have been at Christmas.鈥

秀色短视频 Singers Aaron Rice
Members of the 秀色短视频 Singers rehearse.

The ensembles will perform in the house’s Winter Garden, where guests will encounter the choirs as they begin touring the historic home. 秀色短视频 Singers will perform beginning at 1:45 p.m., followed by Webb Chorale from approximately 2:15 to 2:45 p.m.

Among the students participating are brothers, Corwin and Thomas Stanley, who are members of the 秀色短视频 Singers. Corwin, an Ignite Scholar, is a senior music and worship major and his brother is a sophomore. 鈥淚 am so grateful for everyone who has invested in this opportunity for us and our friends in 秀色短视频 Singers to go share our talents at the Biltmore House,鈥 Corwin shared.

Before they sing, students will have an opportunity to tour the estate and enjoy lunch on site. Rice observed that shared experiences, such as this trip and other performances, mission trips and service opportunities, often become some of the most meaningful parts of a student’s college experience, creating memories and connections that endure for years.

Community members, alumni and friends who would like to attend the performances are encouraged to purchase admission tickets directly through Biltmore as soon as possible. Guests should select house entry times that align with the performances, particularly the 1:45 p.m., 2 p.m. or 2:15 p.m. entry windows, as availability may be limited during the Christmas season.

Tickets may be purchased through Biltmore at or by calling 800-411-3812.

The trip is being made possible through the generosity of donors and supporters of 秀色短视频-Webb’s music programs. Additional contributions are still being accepted to help offset costs associated with the experience. Community members who would like to support this and other performance opportunities may make a gift through 秀色短视频-Webb’s online giving portal.

Campus Community Invited to Bring Donations and Help Stock Shelves for Students in Need

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥 A jar of peanut butter. A box of pasta. A bottle of laundry detergent. Each may seem like a small contribution, but together they can make a meaningful difference for a 秀色短视频-Webb student facing hardship.

Beginning Oct. 2, those items and others like them will help stock the shelves of the new Bulldog Cares Food Pantry, a resource designed to ensure students have access to basic necessities while pursuing their degrees.

The University will celebrate the grand opening of the pantry on Friday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. in Tucker Student Center Room 302. As part of the event, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community supporters are encouraged to “Bring a Little Bulldog Care” by donating items to the pantry.

“Consider bringing a nonperishable food item, personal-care product, laundry detergent, or other essential item for our students,鈥 suggested Jessika Raduly, director of Campus Unity and Connection. 鈥淭ogether, we can fill the shelves and show our students just how much their 秀色短视频-Webb family cares.”

Raduly said the pantry concept began a few years ago with several staff members who responded to students struggling to meet basic needs, including having enough food. “What started as a small collection of items in an office grew into a larger effort as more people on campus wanted to help,鈥 she explained. 鈥淭he goal was simple: make sure no student had to choose between buying food and continuing their education.”

Bulldog Cares Pantry

Bulldog Cares was formally established in the fall of 2022 as a joint initiative led by Student Development, Student Success, and Christian Life and Service. The program supports 秀色短视频-Webb students by providing emergency financial assistance intended to help prevent students from leaving the University due to unexpected financial hardships. It expanded the University’s ability to help students not only with food insecurity but also with other emergency needs that could interfere with completing their education such as emergency dental procedures or the need for prescription medications.

“Bulldog Cares is a reflection of who we are as a 秀色短视频-Webb community: a family that cares for one another, supports our students when they need us most, and believes that no Bulldog should have to face a difficult season alone,” Raduly shared.

Bulldog Cares Pantry

Like colleges and universities across the country, 秀色短视频-Webb has seen demand for assistance increase as the costs of groceries, housing, transportation, and other necessities continue to rise.

“Many students experience financial hardships caused by rising grocery prices, unexpected medical bills, loss of employment, family emergencies, and transportation expenses,” Raduly stated. “Some students simply need extra help to lessen the burden of having to choose hardship over their education.”

Raduly hopes students who may be struggling will not hesitate to seek assistance. “Everyone needs help sometimes, and asking for assistance is a sign of strength, not weakness,” she said. “There may be times in all of our lives when circumstances change unexpectedly and we need someone to come alongside us. There is absolutely no shame in that.”

She emphasized that the pantry was created to support students through difficult seasons without judgment. “If you are a student who is hesitant to visit the Bulldog Cares Food Pantry, I would want you to know that you do not have to struggle alone,” Raduly said. “You do not have to explain or apologize for needing help. The pantry was created because we understand that food insecurity and financial challenges can affect anyone, including hardworking students who are doing everything they can to stay in school and reach their goals.”

Bulldog Cares Pantry

The Bulldog Cares Fund and Food Pantry are supported by donations from faculty, staff, students, alumni, churches, local businesses, and community partners. Contributions from organizations such as Food Lion Feeds, the Physician Assistant Program, 秀色短视频-Webb Baseball, Poplar Springs Baptist Church, and numerous campus groups help ensure students have access to essential resources throughout the year.

“This collective support from our 秀色短视频-Webb family and community partners has made it possible for the Bulldog Cares Food Pantry to continue serving students throughout the year,” Raduly said. “We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has helped make this resource possible and for their continued commitment to caring for our students.”

Looking ahead, Raduly hopes the pantry will continue to grow through partnerships, donations, and increased awareness.

“The goal is to continue expanding resources so that every 秀色短视频-Webb student who is experiencing food insecurity knows that help is available and feels comfortable reaching out for support,” she said. “We want Bulldog Cares to be more than a pantry鈥攚e want it to be a place where students feel welcomed, supported, and reminded that they are part of a community that cares about their well-being and success.”

How Can Students Access the Bulldog Cares Food Pantry?

Bulldog Cares Pantry

Currently enrolled 秀色短视频-Webb students can visit the pantry in the Tucker Student Center Room 302 during operating hours:

  • Monday: 10 a.m.鈥1 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 10 a.m.鈥1 p.m.
  • Friday: 10 a.m.鈥1 p.m.

Students unable to visit during those hours can email to request an after-hours appointment or special accommodation. The process is designed to be welcoming, confidential, and respectful so students can receive assistance without unnecessary barriers.

How Can I Support Bulldog Cares?

Community members can support Bulldog Cares by donating nonperishable food items, personal-care products, laundry supplies, school supplies, and other essential items. Find the complete list here. Financial contributions are also welcome. For more information, visit the Bulldog Cares website.

Health Sciences Students Assist 秀色短视频-Webb Alumna the Rev. Frances Webber with Diabetes Education Program

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擣or the last six years, students from 秀色短视频-Webb University’s College of Health Sciences have stepped beyond the classroom and into communities across Cleveland County through a partnership with Washington Outreach Ministry (WOM). While physician assistant (PA) and nursing students gain practical healthcare experience, they also help support a community-based diabetes education program taught by certified facilitators.

College of Health Sciences Community Service

Dr. LaDonna Clark, director of clinical education and assistant professor in 秀色短视频-Webb’s PA Studies Program, recruited and supervises the group of PA and nursing students who participate in WOM’s eight-week Diabetes Education Maintenance and Control (DEMAC) program. Each week, students travel to Holly Oak Park in Shelby, N.C., to perform blood pressure screenings and weight checks for participants.

College of Health Sciences Community Service
The Rev. Frances Webber shares a laugh with a student
in the 秀色短视频-Webb Physician Assistant Studies Program.

According to WOM co-founder and Executive Director the Rev. Frances Webber, the joint effort highlights how organizations can achieve greater impact when they work together to address health needs. “The best description I can give is collective impact,” Webber said. “The partnership closes the gap in making DEMAC a most effective healthcare tool.鈥

She created the diabetes education program for WOM after seeing the need for greater health education and support in marginalized and low-income communities. 鈥淲e have discovered that people will not go to get help for various reasons, but if you take the help to communities, it’s transformational,” Webber acknowledged.

As she developed the program, Webber received support from the Dover Foundation YMCA and Healthy Together Cleveland and sought guidance from a 秀色短视频-Webb nursing faculty member. “We had conversations about what I was trying to accomplish,” Webber related. “When people don’t have food that leads to health issues. I always think about Maslow’s hierarchy. Give me what I need here, if you want me to get there. I won’t get there if I don’t have food. Food insecurity is huge in Cleveland County.”

According to the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Cleveland County is designated as a Tier 1 county, placing it among North Carolina’s most economically distressed counties. Through partnerships with organizations including 秀色短视频-Webb, Cleveland Community College, Atrium Health and the Cleveland County Health Department, WOM addresses nutritional and health needs through education, outreach and direct assistance.

Webber and her husband, Lewis, founded WOM in 1995. She earned both a business administration degree and a Master of Divinity in Christian education from 秀色短视频-Webb University. Under her leadership, the nonprofit has grown into Cleveland County’s largest emergency food pantry and serves as the Food Hub for Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina/Feeding America.

Partnering with 20 hunger relief agencies, WOM distributes food to more than 16,000 clients each month with the assistance of volunteers at 13 churches across Cleveland County. The ministry also provides monthly food assistance to low-income senior adults through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program and offers additional food support through the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). More than 90 families from two elementary schools receive food through WOM’s backpack ministry, while the Summer Nutrition Program serves more than 3,500 meals to youth each year.

For the College of Health Sciences, the partnership offers students an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge while serving others. “When the call came from Dean Tracy Arnold to help support this incredible program, I immediately knew it was something we had to be involved in,” Clark said. “The mission of Washington Outreach Ministry closely aligns with our commitment to serving underserved communities and improving health outcomes through education and outreach.”

Clark said students gain firsthand exposure to the social and economic factors that influence health outcomes. “Experiences like DEMAC help students better understand these realities while they are still developing their clinical and professional identities,” she said. “They learn to provide patient-centered care, communicate effectively across diverse populations and appreciate the broader factors that influence health outcomes.”

College of Health Sciences Community Service
Dr. LaDonna Clark (in background), the director of clinical
education and assistant professor in 秀色短视频-Webb’s PA
Studies Program, coordinates the program for GWU.

The experience extends well beyond recording blood pressure and weight measurements. 鈥淭he students actually stay in class for the entire session,鈥 Webber said. “I strongly believe that the students are fully engaged in this portion of the DEMAC class, which is very educational.”

Clark said participation in the program helps students understand challenges related to healthcare access, transportation, food security and health literacy that they are likely to encounter throughout their careers. Exposure to underserved populations is especially important in a state where many counties face shortages of healthcare professionals.

During the first five weeks of the program, Clark has witnessed meaningful connections form between students and participants. “The interactions have been overwhelmingly positive, and there has been a genuine sense of connection and trust developing between participants and the healthcare students serving alongside them,” Clark said. “Students are learning how to meet people where they are and gaining a deeper understanding of the unique challenges many individuals face when managing chronic health conditions.”

The program has made an impact on Katie Bowyer, a PA student in the Class of 2028. “I have had the chance to learn so much about interacting with patients and educating them in real time about their blood pressure,” Bowyer said. “We have been able to discuss topics like diet, stress and exercise and how these can impact health. It has been rewarding to apply what we learn in the classroom in a real-world setting.”

Program participant Pattie Hunt said the classes have inspired her to make lifestyle changes and increased her awareness of factors that can contribute to diabetes, including stress and traumatic experiences. She and her grandson now take regular walks together, and she pays closer attention to nutrition and portion sizes.

As DEMAC enters its sixth year, Webber said the program continues to open doors for GWU students while expanding resources to local residents. 鈥淲e are more productive together as a team and not working in a silo,鈥 she shared. 鈥淲e are better together. This partnership allows the students to have hands-on experience and additional training on what to expect before completing their degree. Having GWU in the community is valuable to the school and the community.”

秀色短视频-Webb is also excited to welcome back the Class of 1981 and the Class of 2016 for special Homecoming reunions. Members of the Class of 1981 will celebrate their 45th reunion and have invited the Classes of 1979 through 1984 to join them to reflect on the memories and experiences they shared at 秀色短视频-Webb more than four decades ago. The Class of 2016 will mark its 10th reunion, gathering with fellow alumni to revisit campus, renew friendships, and celebrate the accomplishments of the past decade. Both classes will take part in special reunion gatherings on Saturday evening as part of the Homecoming festivities.

The weekend concludes on Sunday with Worship at the Webb, when members of the 秀色短视频-Webb family come together for a time of worship, reflection, and fellowship. The gathering provides a fitting close to a Homecoming weekend that celebrates the friendships, traditions, and sense of belonging that continue to bring Bulldogs back to campus year after year.

Hovis hopes the weekend will be meaningful for returning alumni as well as current students.

鈥淚 hope Homecoming gives our current students a glimpse of what it truly means to be a Bulldog for life,鈥 she said. 鈥淲hen they see alumni coming back five, ten, twenty, or even fifty years later to reconnect with friends and with 秀色短视频-Webb, they get to see that the relationships they are building right now can last far beyond graduation.鈥

By Embracing Theater, Communications and Service, Student Pursues Goals with Confidence

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he first time Harley Buff, of Hickory, N.C., heard about 秀色短视频-Webb University, she was immediately drawn to the school’s size and Christian mission. After meeting GWU Admissions Counselor Reilly Morgan at a college fair hosted by her high school, Buff’s interest grew, prompting her to schedule a campus visit and experience the University firsthand.

Harley Theatre Club DSC
Harley Buff, center, helped to start the Backstage
Bulldogs Theater Club.

鈥淭he small campus and Christian environment were super enticing to me, and I fell in love with it as soon as I got to campus,鈥 Buff shared. 鈥淭he community at 秀色短视频-Webb is definitely one of my favorite aspects of the University. For me personally, it was really important to go to a smaller Christian school where I could find a community that is Christ-loving and Christ-centered.鈥

She added that the campus is a perfect size. 鈥淚t’s really hard to even walk to your class without saying, 鈥楬i,鈥 to a friend or someone that you know,鈥 Buff observed. 鈥淚t just makes the whole place feel like a home.鈥

That sense of belonging has encouraged Buff to embrace new opportunities, develop new skills and discover new passions. 鈥淭o me, the phrase 鈥楤ecome More鈥 means to explore yourself and find new interests, new hobbies, new skills and new talents from who you already are,鈥 Buff said.

Having been involved in theater since she was a child, Buff is pursuing a double major in theater arts and communications with a concentration in public relations. She arrived at 秀色短视频-Webb looking for ways to combine her longtime passion for the stage with professional opportunities behind the scenes. 鈥淏y doing both of those majors, I’m getting to figure out the entire world of theater, which is something that I’ve always had a passion for,鈥 she reflected.

Harley Puffs DSC
Harley Buff played multiple roles in the
秀色短视频-Webb production of Puffs.

Through her involvement across campus and service as a leader, Buff said she has developed confidence in ways she never expected. One of the first ways she challenged herself to step outside her comfort zone was by joining the Office of Admissions as a Student Recruitment Ambassador. The role gave her an opportunity to meet prospective students, share her 秀色短视频-Webb experience and build confidence as a communicator.

鈥淚 wanted to put myself out there socially, and I thought this was a great way to do that,鈥 she stated. 鈥淚 saw what a special school 秀色短视频-Webb is, and I wanted to be able to talk to high school juniors and seniors and encourage them to make the decision to become a Bulldog. I feel like I have grown in my confidence to talk to random strangers and to put myself out there in front of large crowds.鈥

The communication and leadership skills Buff developed while working in admissions complement what she is learning in class from dedicated faculty members who want to see their students succeed. 鈥淚 truly believe one of the best parts about 秀色短视频-Webb University is the faculty,鈥 she asserted. 鈥淢y professors have been exceptional in teaching me both the course material as well as life skills and lessons.鈥

She especially appreciates the mentorship of Professor of Theater Arts Dr. Christopher Nelson, who also directs campus productions. 鈥淗e has always supported me in everything, including coming to a show I was a part of in my hometown, an hour away from him,鈥 Buff said. 鈥淚 really appreciate his care for us as his students and his passion to teach us more about this art we are all so passionate about.鈥

Recently, Buff gained hands-on experience in both fields through an internship with Hickory Community Theatre, the place where her love of theater first began as a child. She returned to assist with public relations efforts, prepare website content and patron mailings, work events, support box office operations and help with production-related responsibilities.

鈥溞闵淌悠-Webb is good at getting you that real-world experience and doing more than just pen and paper on a test,鈥 Buff said. 鈥淭hey’re trying to get you immersed in what it’s actually going to be like to work in your field. We鈥檝e had choreographers come in and show us what it would be like for an audition. We’ve had people coming in to help us with songs or with our monologues. And the professors were interested and involved in my internship process. They were all super helpful and there for me as I started the process.鈥

Harley Buff SRA Tour Campus
As a Student Recruitment Ambassador for GWU Admissions, Harley Buff, left, leads campus tours for prospective students and their families.

In addition to working as an SRA, Buff sought other ways to become involved and serve others. One of her first stops as a new student was the Connect Fair, an event that showcases GWU clubs and organizations, as well as community groups. Buff was drawn to the information table for Delight, a national ministry for college women. 鈥淚 saw that there was an opening on the leadership team, and I had never even been to it,鈥 Buff recalled. 鈥淲hen I visited their table, I just felt like that was something I wanted to be a part of. The girls were all so amazing. They were all so welcoming, and that’s been such a great experience.鈥

She also helped to start the Backstage Bulldogs theater club. 鈥淚t’s only been around for a semester, and we’ve won many awards,鈥 Buff said. 鈥淲e won Club of the Year, which was so awesome for us. But that’s been really great to be in leadership within my major and a community that means a lot to me personally.鈥

SRA Harley Buff talks about Dover Campus Center.

She serves on the Inter-Club Council and as a Peer Leader for the Honors University Life Class. 鈥淚 feel confident in all of these roles, because I know that my leaders have trained me and prepared me for them, and I know I can always lean on them when I need it,鈥 she noted. 鈥淢y leadership roles have taught me how important it is to have a team. Teaching Excellence Award Recipient Dr. Paula Qualls Challenges Community to 鈥楥ultivate Good Soil鈥 While University Honors Top Students and Scholars

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he 秀色短视频-Webb University community celebrated the formal opening of the academic year with Fall Convocation on Aug. 19. Led by Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Nicole Waters, the program celebrated scholastic achievement, recognized scholarship recipients and featured remarks by Professor of Religious Studies Dr. Paula Qualls, the 2025 recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award.

After the invocation by Vice President for Christian Life and Service and University Chaplain Dr. Josh Parrott, Waters opened the ceremony by introducing the deans of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Robert Prickett; Godbold College of Business, Dr. Mischia Taylor; College of Education, Dr. Prince Bull; and College of Health Sciences, Dr. Tracy Arnold. After the introductions, Waters noted. 鈥淭ogether, these colleges represent the breadth and depth of our university鈥檚 academic life. Their faculty will teach you, mentor you, and model what it means to live out your calling. May your time within these colleges spark curiosity, inspire innovation, and guide you in using your God-given talents to serve a greater purpose.鈥

秀色短视频-Webb President Nate Evans introduced Qualls, who also won the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2008. The recognition represents the highest honor bestowed upon a 秀色短视频-Webb faculty member and is especially meaningful because it reflects the voices of both colleagues and students.

Qualls has served 秀色短视频-Webb for 26 years. 鈥淗er students describe her with words such as compassionate, encouraging, positive and inspiring,鈥 Evans shared. 鈥淭hey speak of a professor who makes difficult material meaningful, creates a welcoming environment for learning, and takes the time to know and care for each student as an individual. Perhaps the greatest testament to her work, however, is found in the students who describe themselves as changed by her influence鈥攏ot only as learners, but as people.鈥

Dr. Paula Qualls

Qualls began her speech by reflecting on memorable teachers portrayed in films such as 鈥淒ead Poets Society,鈥 鈥淢r. Holland’s Opus,鈥 and 鈥淪chool of Rock,鈥 noting that great teachers recognize potential, inspire growth, and help students become their best selves. She said these stories resonate because impactful teachers communicate a powerful message to their students: 鈥淵ou have value. You have potential. I believe in you. You matter.鈥 Qualls then connected those examples to what she described as the greatest teacher of all, Jesus Christ, whose teachings have transformed countless lives throughout history and continue to challenge people to change how they think, live, and serve others.

Using Jesus’ Parable of the Sower from Matthew 13, Qualls urged members of the 秀色短视频-Webb community to nurture their spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social well-being through prayer, learning, healthy habits, and meaningful relationships. She reminded students that a new academic year offers an opportunity for a fresh start and challenged them to make the most of their time and potential. 鈥淲e can all cultivate good soil and be transformed,鈥 she noted. 鈥淲e can make choices to have a good year, to make every day count. Carpe Diem… Seize the day, friends. Make your lives extraordinary. Cultivate good soil. Run the risk, and gain everything!鈥

After Qualls’ address, members of the University Concert Choir, directed by Associate Professor of Music Dr. Joshua Cheney, led the audience in singing the 秀色短视频-Webb alma mater. The convocation also highlighted 秀色短视频-Webb’s commitment to academic excellence, Christian faith, and student integrity. The ceremony opened with an invocation by Dr. Josh Parrott, vice president for Christian Life and Service and University chaplain, and included the presentation of the University’s Honor Code by Student Body President Bethany Durham. Academic achievement was recognized by Waters through the presentation of Scholastic Academic Awards, which honor students with the highest GPAs after one, two and three years of study, while Evans recognized recipients of 秀色短视频-Webb’s premier scholarships.

Lydia Robinson’s Journey Includes Division I Soccer, Study Abroad in England and a Competitive Novant Health Internship While Completing Bachelor’s and MBA Degrees in Four years

Looking at Lydia Robinson’s r茅sum茅, it would be easy to assume luck played a role in her success. The 秀色短视频-Webb University student-athlete from Charlotte, N.C., plays Division I soccer and is on track to earn both her bachelor’s degree and MBA in four years. She studied abroad at Liverpool Hope University in England, where she practiced with a semi-professional soccer program and traveled to 11 countries. She also was selected for Novant Health’s Ignite Internship Program within the Chief of Staff Department.

lydia robinsob soccer DEDE

However, Robinson doesn鈥檛 view any of those accomplishments as luck. They are the result of a philosophy that guides her choices. 鈥淚 always say, 鈥楬ave everlasting goals,鈥欌 she shared. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 always key for me. Always have everlasting goals, because in my mind, you only have one life and you want to do it to your best ability. Take those opportunities, take those risks.鈥

Robinson鈥檚 willingness to put herself out there helped shape her 秀色短视频-Webb experience from the beginning. She hadn鈥檛 planned to play soccer in college, but as her high school career came to an end, she realized she wasn’t ready to leave the game behind. She had already decided to attend GWU because of the close-knit campus, but decided to take a chance and contact the women’s soccer coach. She thought to herself, 鈥淲hat’s the worst that can happen? He can say no.鈥

The gamble paid off. The coach was looking for a fourth goalkeeper. After looking into her impressive record, he invited Robinson to join the team. What began as a simple email became an opportunity to compete at the Division I level while earning her degree.

She began her 秀色短视频-Webb journey in Fall 2024 with plans to graduate a year early. Dual-enrollment courses and Advanced Placement classes completed in high school provided a strong start, while summer coursework allowed her to stay on track without carrying an overwhelming course load during the academic year.

Lydia robinson liverpool fc
Anfield, the home stadium of Liverpool FC,
currently has a seating capacity of 61,276.

Robinson also enrolled in 秀色短视频-Webb’s Accelerated Master’s Program, which allows qualified students to begin earning graduate credit while completing their bachelor’s degree requirements. She is a member of the University Honors Program, a former Congressman of Honors District HAPY and a member of Delta Mu Delta, the International Business Honor Society.

Her academic path, however, wasn’t always clear. Robinson entered as a biology major on the pre-med track with plans to attend physician assistant school or medical school. While she enjoyed helping others, she soon realized direct patient care wasn鈥檛 for her.

While exploring other options, she discovered healthcare management, which allowed her to help people through leadership and decision-making. 鈥淚 was like, 鈥極h my gosh, that would be perfect because it’s the best of both worlds,鈥欌 Robinson reflected.

After choosing her major, Robinson turned her attention to fulfilling another longtime goal. For years, Robinson had envisioned studying abroad. In Spring 2026, that dream became reality when she traveled to Liverpool Hope University in England.

Before selecting a destination, Robinson researched the countries available through 秀色短视频-Webb’s study abroad partnerships. Liverpool ultimately stood out because of its strong soccer culture, convenient location for travel throughout Europe, and connections through a teammate whose family lives there. When a different teammate learned of her plans to study abroad, she decided to join her.

lydia robinson friends

The experience exceeded her expectations. While completing coursework abroad, Robinson traveled throughout Europe, visiting countries including Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Hungary, France, Poland, and others. She learned how to navigate trains and buses, budget carefully and adapt to unfamiliar environments.

鈥淭he amount of independence and maturity I feel like I gained was game changing,鈥 she affirmed. Her mother even noticed the change and complimented her new level of confidence.

The semester abroad also gave Robinson a chance to play soccer in in a place where the sport is woven into everyday life. She joined Liverpool Hope University’s football club, and her teammate received an opportunity to play for Everton Football College. The Everton coach invited Robinson to goalkeeper practice. Training overseas exposed Robinson to a faster style of play and she learned new techniques that she plans to carry into her final collegiate season.

While there, another opportunity unexpectedly presented itself. Knowing she would be entering her senior year early, Robinson began searching for internships. One day, from her room in England, she opened LinkedIn and started submitting applications.

Within days, she received a message from Novant Health in Charlotte regarding its Ignite Internship Program. The 12-week internship rotates students through departments across the healthcare system, including communications, marketing, finance, human resources, community health and patient experience.

She participated in a virtual interview and was accepted for the program that started in June. The experience has expanded Robinson’s understanding of healthcare administration while helping her build valuable professional connections.

The internship has also reinforced lessons she learned in her business classes at 秀色短视频-Webb. Robinson pointed specifically to professional communication skills and networking opportunities as areas where classroom experiences have translated into the workplace.

lydia internship original FCA DD
Lydia Robinson, second from left, was chosen to participate in the Novant Health Ignite Internship Program.

鈥淓very single time I’m on a new Zoom call or meet a new person, I have to redo this elevator pitch pretty much being like, ‘Hi, I’m Lydia. I go to 秀色短视频-Webb, majoring this, I want to do this,鈥欌 she said. 鈥淪o that definitely helped me.”

Throughout her internship this summer, Robinson has carefully recorded names and professional contacts, later connecting with many of them through LinkedIn. One of the people she connected with posted about an internship opportunity for this fall, so she applied. “You never know where it could go,” she noted, expressing an interest in the program.

Whether pursuing an accelerated degree plan, studying abroad, walking onto a collegiate soccer team or gaining career experience in an internship program, Robinson believes growth begins with a willingness to try. 鈥淚鈥檝e gained so many things in life from just putting myself out there,鈥 she stated.

For Robinson, each accomplishment isn’t a finish line鈥攊t’s simply another step toward her next “everlasting goal.”

Viral 鈥楪runge Country鈥 Artist Completes Entertainment Lineup for Aug. 22 Community Celebration

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥斝闵淌悠-Webb University has announced the final musical performer for Webbstock 2026. Mississippi-based singer-songwriter Sam Donald will join the entertainment lineup for the community celebration on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Brinkley Amphitheater. The free event will welcome students, families, alumni and community members for an evening of live music, food, children’s activities and fellowship as 秀色短视频-Webb launches a new academic year.

Assistant Dean of Students & Director of Student Engagement Brian Arnold said Webbstock is designed to create opportunities for students to engage, build relationships, and feel a sense of belonging. “The start of a new semester is about more than classes鈥攊t’s about finding your place on campus and connecting to the surrounding community. Webbstock is designed to bring our campus and community together through music, fun, and shared experiences. Whether you’re a first-year student or a returning Bulldog, we hope this event helps everyone feel connected and excited for the year ahead.”

Originally from Jackson, Miss., and now residing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Donald spent years performing as a guitarist in various bands before stepping into the spotlight as a lead performer and songwriter in 2021. His growing popularity has earned attention across the country, particularly after several of his songs and videos went viral on TikTok in early 2024, generating more than 15 million views in less than six weeks. The viral success led to a dramatic increase in streaming activity, with his music seeing more than a 400 percent increase in listeners.

Working alongside longtime producer Zack Keel, Donald embraced a new creative direction in 2023. Rather than pursuing conventional genre expectations, the pair focused on creating music that flowed naturally from their songwriting process. The result has been a distinctive sound often described as “grunge country,” blending the raw energy of alternative rock with the storytelling traditions of country music.

He first introduced this style through the song “Make You Want God,” which became the foundation for his evolving musical identity. He continued developing the sound through subsequent releases, including “Nickels & Dimes” and “Son of the Sandman,” establishing a growing fan base drawn to his authentic lyrics and genre-blending approach.

Donald joins Feeling 22: A Tribute to Taylor Swift and Y2K Kids to complete this year’s entertainment lineup. Together, the three acts will provide an evening of performances spanning multiple musical styles and generations, creating a memorable experience for attendees.

In addition to live entertainment, the event will feature a variety of local food vendors, artisans and small businesses. Guests can enjoy everything from soul food to freshly squeezed lemonade and shop for handcrafted soaps, permanent jewelry, candles and more.

Whether guests are returning to campus, visiting for the first time or simply looking for a fun summer evening, Webbstock offers an opportunity to connect, celebrate and create memories together.
